Hawks win big in baseball

Central Valley High School's varsity baseball team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 13-3 rout of host Hughson on Friday.

Starter William Mestas picked up the win. The Hawks held a 7-2 lead when he exited the game after the fourth inning. Mestas surrendered two runs and five hits with one strikeout and two walks.

Mestas also singled, scored once, and drove in a pair of runs.

Greg Guerra tossed three innings of relief. He gave up one run and three hits, to go along with six strikeouts, three walks and two hit batsmen.

Guerra, Martin Gomez and Scott Myatt had standout games on offense.

Guerra finished 5-for-5 with one double, four runs and one RBI.

Gomez went 4-for-5 with a homer, two doubles, four runs and three RBIs.

Myatt batted 3-for-5 with one run and two RBIs

The Hawks finished the preseason with a 3-5 record.

Central Valley will open the VOL portion of its schedule this week with a two-game series against Sonora. The Hawks will play host to the Wildcats on Thursday at 4 p.m.
