CHS prevails in track and field at Patterson

Ceres High School’s track and field program swept all four levels while competing at Patterson last week.

“It was a good day for us,” Bulldogs head coach Brett Johnson said.

Two weeks removed from suffering its first loss of the season, Ceres High’s varsity boys team bounced back with a thrilling 71-65 win over the Tigers on Thursday.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-1 in the Western Athletic Conference dual standings.

“The varsity boys match came down to the 4x400 relay in a winner-take-all race,” Johnson said.

Ceres High’s 4x400 relay team of Seth Gibson, Blake Borba, Christian Linarez and Isaac Leon placed first in 3:36.

Gibson won two individual events as well.

He took first in the 110 hurdles (15.20) and 300 hurdles (42.57).

Conner Johnson took first in the discus (116-7) and shot put (44-10).

Marcellus Boykins took first in the triple jump (19-0).

Isaac Soto took first in the pole vault (10-0).

Johnni Smith-Willis took first in the 100 and third in the 200.

Linarez took second in the 1,600 (4:53) and 800 (2:11).

Cordell Dennis took second in the 100.

Borba took second in the 400 (55.47).

Angel Macias took second in the 3,200 (11:27).

Aaron Black took second in the pole vault (8-0).

Ryan Wolf took second in the shot put (39-81/2) and third in the discus (96-31/2).

Roman Acosta took third in the 3,200 (11:28).

David Montufar took third in the pole vault (7-0).

Louis Thomas took third in the high jump (5-2).

Ceres High’s varsity girls team improved to 2-1 in the WAC standings following its 82-53 triumph against Patterson.

Haleigh Leazer took first in the 1,600 and 800 (2:44).

Destiny Suarez took second in the 1,600 and third in the 800 (2:56).

Azia Brewster took first in the 100 hurdles (17.43) and high jump (4-10).

Claudia Jimenez took first in the 400 (1:05.06) and 200 (27.77).

Yasmine Cordova took third in the 400 (1:08.81).

Carli Gomes took first in the 100 and 300 hurdles (53.60).

Karina Martinez took third in the 200 (29.70).

Julia Pata took second in the shot put (34-3) and discus (84-51/2).

Kendall Meyer took second in the long jump (13-2), and third in the triple jump (27-1) and high jump (4-8).

Sydney Elness took first in the triple jump (30-11), second in the high jump (4-8) and third in the long jump (12-6).

Ceres High’s 4x100 relay team of Karina Martinez, Claudia Jimenez, Azia Brewster and Carli Gomes took first (54.66).

Ceres High’s 4x400 relay team of Martinez, Leazer, Cordova and Jimenez took first (4:36.09).

Ceres High’s junior-varsity boys (75-58) and girls (73-31) teams were also victorious.
