Anaya pitches no-hitter in Dawgs’ 12-0 rout of Davis
Noel Anaya
Junior Noel Anaya made program history by pitching a no-hitter during the Ceres High baseball team’s 12-0 shutout of Grace Davis in WAC play on May 4 in Modesto.

Junior Noel Anaya had no idea he made program history until one of his Ceres High baseball teammates delivered the news.

“I didn’t know I had a no-hitter,” said Anaya, a junior pitcher. “I found out after the game. I was in shock.”

Anaya had six strikeouts while tossing a complete-game shutout during the Bulldogs’ 12-0 five-inning blowout of the Grace Davis Spartans in Game 1 of their three-game Western Athletic Conference series on May 4 in Modesto.

“I was able to hit my spots when I needed to,” Anaya said. “I didn’t get behind in counts. My defense backed me up. It has to be by besting pitching performance (ever). The good thing is I can keep on improving.”

“He was aggressive,” head coach Clinton Goblirsch said. “He kept them off-balance.”

Anaya also helped his own cause by batting 1-for-3 from the plate with one run.

Landyn Hudson batted 2-for-2 with one double, two RBIs and three runs.

Daniel Gonzalez batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run.

Eli Beltran batted 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run.

Xavier Pompa batted 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run.

Jayson Casias batted 1-for-2 with one double, one RBI and one run.

Isac Cordova batted 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Nick Villalobos batted 1-for-1 with one run

Josh Prestridge scored twice.

Ceres High (4-5) had a 1-5 overall record prior to beating Grace Davis three times in a span of three days last week.

“That’s what we needed,” Goblirsch said. “We lost a lot of close games earlier in the season. We want to build on the momentum.”

“We showed what we’re capable of,” Anaya added.

Ceres High won the second game, 6-3, at Grace Davis on May 4.

Hudson starred at pitcher.

He allowed one run and four hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks in six innings.

Andrew Kommavong batted 1-for-2 with one double, three RBIs and one run.

Ryan Ashby collected one RBI and one run.

Cordova batted 1-for-3 with two runs.

Pompa batted 2-for-4 with one run.

Prestridge batted 1-for-3.

Host Ceres High topped Grace Davis 11-0 in five innings on Thursday at Art McRae Field.

Pompa evened his pitching record at 2-2.

He gave up no runs and four hits with one strikeout and no walks.

Cordova led the way on offense, finishing 2-for-2 with one double, two RBIs and two runs.

Prestridge batted 1-for-1 with one double, two RBIs and two runs.
