Boys volleyball suffers narrow setback

Locked in a see-saw battle with Stone Ridge Christian, Ceres High's varsity boys volleyball team ran out of steam down the stretch.

The Knights outlasted the host Bulldogs 3-2 on March 24 at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

"It's frustrating," Bulldogs senior Juan Palafox said. "I hate losing."

Ceres High dropped to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the Western Athletic Conference standings.

Stone Ridge Christian improved to 5-1 and 3-1.

"We've improved a lot since tryouts," Juan said.

Palafox had 13 digs, four aces, three kills and one block against Stone Ridge Christian.

Austin Crain had 23 digs, two kills and two aces.

Brandon Garcia had 15 digs.

Wyatt Ogden had 10 assists, seven digs, three kills, three blocks and two aces.

Chris Lubinsky had 10 digs and three aces.

Cristian Garcia had nine digs, eight blocks, six kills and three aces.

Jordan McGrath had seven digs, two blocks and one kill.

Trenton Blanton had two digs

Stone Ridge Christian won the fifth and decisive game, 15-4.

The Bulldogs secured their first-ever win in WAC play on March 21.

Ceres High posted a 3-1 victory over host Los Banos.

Crain led the Bulldogs with 42 digs, six aces and five kills.

Ceres High will play host to crosstown-rival Central Valley (1-3) on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Central Valley lost 3-1 to visiting Stone Ridge Christian on March 21.
