Central Valley High School's varsity boys cross country team finished one spot ahead of crosstown-rival Ceres High while competing at the Sac-Joaquin Sub-Section Division-III championships on Nov. 9 at Frogtown in Angels Camp.
Ben Saldana, Felipe Garcia, Miguel Villafan, Joaquin Garcia and Favian Castellanos helped lead the Hawks to a 23rd-place finish (651 points).
Saldana finished 53rd with a time of 18 minutes, 14 seconds on the 3-mile course.
Garcia, Villafan, Garcia and Castellanos posted times of 21:05, 21:25, 21:28 and 23:07, respectively.
The Bulldogs totaled 655 points.
Ceres High's Judas Chavarin (18:08), Edgar Torres (20:34), Jacob Edwards (21:14), Manpreet Dhami (23:13) and Matthew Thornberry (23:18) placed 48th, 130th, 142nd, 167th and 168th.
Bulldog junior Jeanette Torres finished 136th overall (28:03) in the varsity girls division.
Ceres High's frosh-soph girls placed sixth with a team score of 184 at Divisionals.
Jennifer Cisneros (15th, 15:13) led the Bulldogs.
Lacey Oliveira (28th, 16:10), Haleigh Leazer (33rd, 16:43), Cristina Arreola (41st, 17:19) and Evangelique Mejia (67th, 21:04) also contributed.
Marissa Martinez (74th, 18:32) and Adriana Gomez (79th, 18:54) represented the Hawks.
