Ceres High’s girls golf team won its Western Athletic Conference duals versus Los Banos and Lathrop this past week.

The Bulldogs earned their fourth victory of the WAC season after topping Los Banos 225-277 on Oct. 5 at St. Stanislaus.

“They’re working hard,” Ceres High head coach Ron Edwards said. “They’ve been practicing a lot. They want to win and get better. I’m proud of them.”

Alysabeth Marquez led the Bulldogs with a 10-over-par 38.

Allison Lewis fired a 39.

Brooke Trio and Hailey Tsurui both shot 45.

Jayda Bryant carded a 58.

Ceres High cruised to a 225-266 victory over visiting Lathrop on Oct. 4.

Marquez led the Bulldogs with a 10-over-par 38.

Lewis (39), Trio (45), Tsurui (45) and Bryant (58) rounded out Ceres High’s scorecard.

Ceres High has collected wins against Los Banos, Lathrop, Johansen and Grace Davis this year.

The Bulldogs forfeited a handful of matches at the beginning of the season due to a lack of numbers.

“We really want to go to playoffs,” Edwards said. “We’ll have a chance if we play well this week and next week.”

CV loses twice

Central Valley High School’s girls golf program dropped a pair of Central California Conference matches by forfeit last week.

The Hawks competed with a four-person lineup--five players are needed to score--in losing to Atwater and Golden Valley.

Central Valley’s Kaylee Almanza earned the lowest golf score as she fired an 11-over-par 39 versus Atwater on Oct. 6 at St. Stanislaus.

Hawk teammates Kalaieda Bernal, Lucia Bernal and Evelyn Guizar shot 45, 52 and 56, respectively.

Almanza fired a team-best 43 during Central Valley’s loss to visiting Golden Valley on Oct. 4.

Kalaieda Bernal carded a 52.

Guizar shot a 60.

Emily Mariani withdrew from the match.
