Ruben Morales and Manuel Lazcano represented Central Valley High School's varsity boys tennis team at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division-II Doubles Tournament this past week in Roseville.

"You always hope for a good draw," Hawks head coach Mike Rodriguez said. "They ended up playing the overall No. 1 seed."

Morales and Lazcano lost 6-0, 6-2 to Rio Americano's Sarthak Saxena and Austin Ariza in the first round.

Saxena and Ariza won all four of their matches en route to claiming the championship.

"Ruben and Manuel didn't play scared," Rodriguez said. "It was a good experience for them. Hopefully, they can get back there next year."

Morales and Lazcano advanced to the finals while teaming up for the first time at the Western Athletic Conference Doubles Championships on April 28 in Ceres.

Ruben and Manuel made history by becoming the first duo from Central Valley to qualify for the section tournament. "They were a pretty solid team," Rodriguez said. "They played hard. They did awesome."
