Central Valley girls golf secures split in opening week of CCC play

Christina Hermenegildo and Central Valley’s varsity girls tennis team dropped their Central California Conference opener 5-4 to visiting Buhach Colony on Thursday.

Central Valley’s varsity girls tennis team dropped its Central California Conference opener, 5-4, to Buhach Colony on Thursday in Ceres.

The Hawks won three of six singles and one of three doubles matches versus the Thunder.

Central Valley’s Virginia Moore defeated Vanessa Hicks 6-3, 6-2 in No. 2 singles play.

Sadie Porras defeated Leigh Ballesil 6-1, 6-3 in No. 4 singles play.

Cassandra Leon defeated Priscilla Bridges 6-4, 6-2 in No. 5 singles play.

Bandna Bhatti lost 6-0, 6-2 to Savun Emanivong in No. 1 singles play.

Christina Hermenegildo lost 6-2, 6-2 to Leah Chapman in No. 3 singles play.

Edith Amaya lost 6-3, 7-6 to Stephanie Ramos in No. 6 singles play.

Sabina Dhillon and Natalia Rubio defeated Kylie Richards and Kylie Craig 6-1, 6-4 in No. 1 doubles play.

Jessica Saini and Ashley Corro lost 6-7 (4-6), 7-5, 6-3 to Kassandra Sarmiento and Sarai Thao in No. 2 doubles play.

Alicia Sanchez and Malina Keomuangchanh lost 6-1, 6-3 to Anahi Cisneros and Julia Jones in No. 3 doubles play.


GIRLS GOLF

Central Valley’s varsity girls golf team won one of its two matches during the first week of the CCC season.

The Hawks lost 237-255 to the El Capitan Gauchos on Thursday at St. Stanislaus.

Central Valley’s Amelia Daoheung led all golfers with a 35.

Hawk teammates Esmeralda Lopez, Sayra Rodriguez, Lina Bernal and Lucia Bernal shot 46, 55, 57 and 62, respectively.

Central Valley opened the 2019 campaign with a 327-360 win over Buhach Colony on Aug. 27 at Rancho Del Rey.


CROSS COUNTRY

Central Valley’s cross country program competed at the Kimball High School Jaguar Invitational last Thursday at Eagal Lakes in Tracy.

Central Valley’s varsity girls team posted a score of 189 en route to a seventh-place finish.

Priscilla Garcia was the Hawks’ top runner.

She finished 33rd overall in a field of 95.

Garcia completed the 3.1-mile course in 27 minutes, 42 seconds.

Claudia Gomez (28:06), Abigail Garcia (28:53), Adriana Huaracha (29:08), Kelsy Naranjo (29:39), Guadalupe Gonzalez Zepeda (29:45), Aryanna Jimenez (31:33) and Yajandy Mendoza (35:22) placed 36th, 49th, 51st, 53rd, 55th, 68th and 81st, respectively. 

Central Valley’s varsity boys team (297 points) took 12th.

Alejandro Gonzalez led the Hawks.

He finished 41st (21:19) in a field of 137.

Central Valley teammates Favio Gonzalez (21:36), Eric Andrade (21:46), Enrique Martinez (23:42), Ivan Martinez (23:57), David Cuevas Sanchez (24:02), Emmanuel Mendoza (24:21), Patric Senesom (24:37), Anthony Anaya (25:13), Sebastian Pena (25:16) and Julian Aguilar (32:48) placed 46th, 50th, 86th, 93rd, 95th, 98th, 103rd, 106th, 108th and 133rd, respectively.
