Central Valley loses twice to Los Banos
Tigers secure WACs final postseason berth

Central Valley High School's varsity baseball team had its playoff hopes dashed during the final week of the Western Athletic Conference season.

Los Banos secured the WAC's third and final postseason berth following its two-game sweep of the Hawks.

Central Valley, which participated in the playoffs for the first time in program history a year ago, placed fourth in the conference standings (6-6) in 2014. The Hawks posted a 17-10 overall record.

The Tigers (8-4) improved to 15-8 on the year.

Central Valley surrendered eight runs in the top of the first inning on its way to a 13-10 loss to Los Banos on Tuesday, May 6 in Ceres.

Hawk starting pitcher Raul Godinez gave up four earned runs, scattered eight hits, struck out three and walked six in four innings.

Godinez batted 3-for-5 from the plate with one RBI and one run.

Austin Burns batted 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs.

Joseph Montalvo batted 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one run.

Kendel Johnson batted 1-for-5 with one RBI and one run.

Joseph Zuniga batted 2-for-5 with one double and one run.

Roberto Gutierrez batted 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Jorge Alvarez scored two runs.

Michael Collins and Carlos Uribe tallied one run each.

Down 13-8, Central Valley plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Central Valley lost 11-0 in five innings to host Los Banos on May 5.

The Hawks mustered just one hit in 16 at-bats and committed four errors on defense.

Godinez doubled.
