Ceres High School's varsity wrestling team found itself in a must-win situation on Feb. 2 at Livingston High School.

The winner of the Western Athletic Conference dual-meet secured a berth to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division-IV Team Duals.

The Bulldogs advanced by virtue of their 47-23 victory over the Wolves.

"That punched our ticket," Ceres High head coach Steve Festa said.

Ceres High (5-1) and Livingston (4-2) placed second and third, respectively, in the WAC dual standings.

The Wolves played a part in preventing the Bulldogs from qualifying for section duals last year.

"The kids were motivated," Festa said. "They were hungry. We tied them last year and lost on criteria."

Ceres High's Diego Diaz won by pin (0:27) against Livingston's Juan Ornelas at 172 pounds last week.

Tyree Williams won by pin (2:05) against Felix Lorenzo at 184 pounds.

Conner Johnson won by pin (2:08) against Rene Garcia at 195 pounds.

John Alba won by pin (2:21) against Giovanni Gutierrez at 147 pounds.

Daniel McElwain won by pin (2:35) against Alonzo Lorenzo at 220 pounds.

Jaden Cooper won by pin (2:40) against Andres Garcia at 140 pounds.

Frankie Mendez won by major decision (14-0) against Macario Castro at 108 pounds.

Luis Camarillo won by major decision (13-2) against Eli Rangel at 128 pounds.

Aiden Moore won by decision (6-4) against Richardo Alvarez at 154 pounds.

The Bulldogs wrapped up the WAC dual-meet season with four straight victories.

"We're peaking at the right time," Festa said.
