Ceres High’s varsity boys cross country team improved to 3-2 in the WAC standings after besting Los Banos 18-37 on Oct. 3 at Ceres River Bluff Regional Park.

The Bulldogs (3-2) took over sole possession of second place thanks to their lopsided win over the Tigers (2-3).

Ceres High and Los Banos had identical 2-2 records prior to facing off last week.

“The boys won pretty easily,” Bulldogs’ head coach Katie Thiele said. “We were pretty confident going into the race just by looking results from invitationals they had been to and league standings.”

Aaron Alarcon, Luis Yepez, Daniel Yepez, Fernando Cardoza and Bryan Erenas all contributed to Ceres High’s point total.

Alarcon placed first with a time of 18 minutes, 33 seconds on the 3-mile course.

Brothers Luis (18:35) and Daniel (19:08) took second and fourth, respectively.

Cardoza (19:32) and Erenas (19:46) finished fifth and sixth.

“Aaron’s been our most consistent runner,” Thiele said. “He’s our team captain. The other boys look up to him because he’s been successful. They want to follow his lead.”

The Bulldogs will compete against the Mountain House Mustangs (1-3) today on the road.

“I have high expectations for that meet,” Thiele said. “The boys are very hungry. They want to do well.”
