Ceres High School’s defending Western Athletic Conference champion varsity girls soccer team eased its way past host Los Banos 5-1 on March 21.
“We have more experience,” Bulldogs head coach Miguel Saldate said.
Freshman Mariah Trevino led Ceres High in scoring with two goals.
Breanno Moreno, Karina Torrez and Miranda Wilds all contributed one goal.
Edith Larranaga had two assists.
Cristina Arreola and Jennifer Cisneros each collected one assist.
Bulldog goalkeeper Angelmarie Coral made two saves.
Ceres High led 4-0 at halftime.
The Bulldog totaled 18 shots during the game.
“We played the way we were supposed to play,” Saldate said.
The Bulldogs (2-0-1, seven points) remained in a tie for third place with El Capitan (2-1-1, seven points) in the WAC.
Last-place Los Banos (0-4-0, no points) has yet to win a conference game.
Ceres High trails Central Valley (3-0-0, nine points) and Livingston (3-1-0, nine points) in the league standings.
El Capitan (2-1-1, seven points), Patterson (1-2-0, three points) and Pacheco (0-3-0, no points) are also members of the WAC.
“We’re shooting for the same thing we did last year,” Saldate said. “It will be more difficult this season because the teams are more competitive.”
