Ceres High’s girls flag football team topped Livingston and Johansen during the opening week of Western Athletic Conference play.
Central Valley beat Pacheco and lost to Grace Davis.
“We still have flaws,” Hawks’ head coach Tony Cordova said. “We’re starting to address them.”
Ceres High snapped a four-game losing streak with a 19-0 victory over Livingston on Sept. 8 at Bulldog Stadium.
The Bulldogs piled up 186 rushing yards on 18 carries.
Dual-threat quarterback Evelyn Sciociole ran for 116 yards and passed for 89 yards.
Gabriella Cole carried the ball five times for 32 yards. She also caught six passes for 35 yards.
Maria Bravo totaled 34 yards on four receptions.
Alyssa Arbaugh, Jazlyn Cisneros, Maya Galvan, Hailey Iniguez and Yaresly Lopez led Ceres High’s defense.
Arbaugh had two interceptions.
Cisneros had one sack.
Galvan had two tackles and one pass deflection.
Iniguez had five flag pulls.
Lopez had four flag pulls.
Ceres High improved to 4-6 overall and 2-0 in the WAC standings after earning a hard-fought 19-12 win against Johansen on Sept. 9 in Modesto.
The Bulldogs had 272 yards of total offense, including 148 on the ground.
Sciosciole rushed for 90 yards and one touchdown on six carries and passed for 124 yards.
Cole ran for 28 yards and one touchdown on two carries.
Bravo totaled 20 yards and one touchdown on three carries. She hauled in four passes for 41 yards.
Jackie Guillory caught four passes for 39 yards.
Ceres High’s defense had 24 flag pulls, four interceptions and two sacks.
Arbaugh led the Bulldogs with three flag pulls and two interceptions.
Samantha Alcarez had five flag pulls and one sack.
Cisneros had four flag pulls and one sack.
Cole had two flag pulls and one interception.
Abigail Schultz had one interception.
Central Valley improved to 2-9 overall and 1-1 in league with a 33-22 win versus Pacheco on Sept. 9 in Ceres.
“Everybody played great,” Cordova said.
Freshman quarterback Nelmarie Diaz completed 11 of 16 passes for 164 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.
Ayleen Apreza caught five passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 16 yards and two scores on four carries.
The Hawks totaled 90 rushing yards on 18 carries.
Victoria Mendoza ran for a team-high 29 yards on three carries.
Valeria Garcia led Central Valley’s defense with seven flag pulls.

Mekenzie Buenrostro had four flag pulls.
Julianna Hernandez had two tackles and one sack.
Pacheco never posed a threat as Central Valley led from start to finish.
“We kept our foot on the gas the whole game,” Cordova said.
Central Valley sustained a 25-20 loss while battling Grace Davis on Sept. 8 at Johansen High School.
“We should have won that game,” Cordova said. “We scored fast and got complacent.”
Diaz completed 5 of 10 passes for 118 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.
She also ran for 63 yards on 10 carries.
Apreza caught two passes for 90 yards and two touchdowns.
Gomez had 10 flag pulls and one interception.
Torres had six flag pulls and one pass deflection.
Daniela Barajas had one tackle and one sack.
The Hawks stormed out to a 12-0 lead early in the first quarter as Diaz tossed TD passes to Apreza.
Grace Davis outscored Central Valley 25-8 the rest of the game.
“They started double blitzing our quarterback,” Cordova said. “That changed everything.”
