CHS improves to 8-3 on the year following two-game sweep of Livingston

Ceres High School's varsity baseball squad dominated every facet during its Western Athletic Conference season-opening two-game series versus Livingston last week.

The Bulldogs batted .396 (21-for-53) from the plate as a team, scored 21 times, allowed two runs and committed just one error while sweeping the Wolves.

"It's what you hope for every time you go out there," Ceres High head coach John Bussard said.

The Bulldogs improved to 8-3 on the year and 2-0 in the WAC standings.

Livingston dropped to 3-5 and 0-2.

Ceres High has reeled off three straight wins since having its four-game unbeaten snapped by Manteca with a 9-1 loss on March 13.

"We're swinging the bats pretty well," Bussard said. "Our pitching has been very solid. We've made a strong effort to focus more on defense."

Ceres High shut out Livingston 9-0 on Thursday at Art McRae Field.

Junior pitcher Brad Bussard improved his season record to 4-0.

Bussard allowed four hits while striking out seven batters.

He has yet to allow a run this year.
The Bulldogs collected eight hits and made no errors.

Caleb McDade batted 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run.

Izaiah Hernandez batted 2-for-3 with one triple, one RBI and one run.

Dylan Canatsy batted 1-for-3 with one double, two RBIs and one run.

Brett Conway batted 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run.

Jimmy Bates collected one RBI and one run.

Alan Marquez singled and scored once.

Brent Bussard tallied two runs.

Brad Bussard had one run.

Merrik Price singled.

Ceres High plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning and six in the third.

The Bulldogs earned a 12-2 six-inning, mercy-rule win against host Livingston on March 18.

"It was a pretty good thumping," said coach Bussard, who made sure his team remained focused for the second game after the blowout win. "We addressed that immediately."

Alan Marquez, Ceres High's No. 2 pitcher, gave up two hits and a pair of runs in five innings.

Marquez had four strikeouts and two walks.

Conway pitched one inning of relief, striking out two.

The Bulldogs posted a team batting average of .448 (13-for-29).
Ceres High scored three runs in the first, third, fifth and sixth innings.

Brent Bussard batted 4-for-4 with one double, three RBIs and four runs.

Hernandez batted 1-for-3 with one homer, two RBIs and one run.

Brandon Machado batted 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run.

Bates batted 1-for-2 with one RBI and three runs.

Dylan Canatsy batted 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Conway batted 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Brad Bussard scored one run.

Ceres High will battle Patterson on March 25 and 27.

The Bulldogs will play against the host Tigers on Thursday at 4 p.m.
