Ceres High's varsity boys golf and tennis programs had impressive 2017 campaigns.

The Courier's co-Teams of the Year won Western Athletic Conference titles.

Ceres High's golf team successfully defended its conference title thanks to the play of WAC Most Valuable Player Gary Condit, and first-team all-WAC honorees James Cervantez, Jake Nevarez, Jayden Panyanouvong and Braden Hurst.

Zac Chapman also contributed.

"It just goes to show you how dominant we were this year and how good this team was," head coach Abel Maestas said. "I give all of the credit to the boys. I couldn't ask for a better team."

The Bulldogs won all six league cluster meets and took first at the WAC year-end tournament.

Ceres High participated in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs for the seventh consecutive year.

The Bulldogs took fifth at the Division-IV tournament for the second straight season.

"It's an honor to coach them," Maestas said. "We'll continue to have success in league and hopefully we can break through at Divisionals. Our goal is to win a section title."

Ceres High's tennis team placed first in the WAC standings (14-1) for the third time in four seasons.

The Bulldogs had a host of contributors, including Nolan McCaig, Christian Pimentel, Chris Padilla, Jorge Campos, Donnavin Koeurn and Darren Polanes, Juan Hernandez, Will Rodriguez, Erik Haro, Tony Heras, Gurraj Purewal, Tarandeep Singh and Angelo Marino.

McCaig won the WAC singles championship and MVP award for the fourth year in a row.

Campos and Koeurn both earned first-team all-league honors for their individual play.

Ceres High continued its winning tradition by qualifying for the playoffs for the eighth straight year.

The Bulldogs compiled a 1-1 record en route to a top-four finish in the Division-III bracket.

"We had a great season," McCaig said. "I'm really proud of everybody. Winning WAC is a big accomplishment. That was one of our goals. It made us work hard and push ourselves past our limits."
