CHS volleyball triples its win total from a year ago

Ceres High School's varsity volleyball team struggled to a 1-11 record in Western Athletic Conference play last season.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-6 in the 2015 WAC standings after sweeping host Patterson 25-20, 25-17, 25-23 on Thursday.

Ceres High tripled its win total from a year ago.

"Our team is still staying positive and working extremely hard," Bulldogs leader Darlene Tobler said. "It's so exciting to see how much they have improved and their drive to do so. I am very proud to be their coach."

Ceres High's Sabrina Baisdon collected 19 assists and three aces against Patterson.

Kendall Meyer tallied nine kills and two blocks.

Breanna Moreno had nine digs.

Madison Nash had six kills and three aces.

Ceres High lost 25-11, 25-22, 25-17 to visiting Los Banos on Oct. 13.

Bulldog Jessica Arreola totaled 19 digs while starring on defense.

Baisdon dished out eight assists.

Kaylee Holloway had five blocks.

El Capitan 3, Central Valley 0
Central Valley High School's varsity volleyball team dropped to 5-3 in the WAC after losing 25-15, 25-14, 25-20 to undefeated El Capitan on Thursday in Merced.

Blanca Espinoza had a team-high 19 digs for the third-place Hawks.

Ellysa Widas collected 14 assists.

Julia Ramsey tallied 10 kills.

Ceres High will play host to crosstown-rival Central Valley tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
