Central Valley High School’s cross country program had 12 runners race at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division-I Sub-Section meet on Nov. 6 at Frogtown in Angels Camp.

“I’m super happy with how they did,” Hawks’ head coach Michael Mrgudic said. “It was definitely a challenge. It was a tough course. Those hills take a lot out of your legs.”

Seniors Roberto Rosales, Alexander Contreras, Daniel Soares and Kevin Lee represented the Hawk’ varsity boys team for the final time.

“It was an honor to coach them,” Mrgudic said. “I had a lot of fun.”

“They worked hard,” he added. “They pushed each other.”

Rosales paced Central Valley.

He took 86th overall with a time of 19 minutes, 55 seconds on the 3-mile course.

“He’s been our top guy almost all year,” Mrgudic said. “He put in a lot of work to get better. He has a big personality. We’re going to miss him next year.”

Contreras (20:32), Soares (22:22) and Lee (23:18) placed 97th, 117th and 125th, respectively.

Freshmen Mariana Campos, Keilany Torres, Yahaira Torres and Milianna Rios competed in the Frosh-Soph Girls Division.

Mariana was the Hawks’ top finisher.

She took 43rd with a time of 15 minutes, 43 seconds on the 2-mile course.

Keilany (18:45), Yahaira (21:43) and Milianna placed 103rd, 117th and 118th, respectively.

“They all ran really well,” Mrgudic said. “They made a lot of improvements this season. Right now, they’re the core of our team. I’m excited for the future.”

Jonathan Macias, Joshua Michelena, Jackson Stokes and LaDre Sengsoury competed in the Frosh Boys Division.

Macias led Central Valley.

He took 37th with a time of 14 minutes, 05 seconds on the 2-mile course.

Michelena (15:14), Stokes (15:28) and Sengsoury (16:45) placed 59th, 60th and 70th, respectively.

“They put a good effort in,” Mrgudic said. “They held their own. If they put in the work, they can compete at the varsity level (next season).”
