CV, CHS compete at WAC meet

Ceres High's Judas Chavarin and Central Valley's Ben Saldana were awarded all-league patches after placing fourth and sixth, respectively, at the Western Athletic Conference Varsity Boys Cross Country Championships on Wednesday at Ceres River Bluff Regional Park.

Competing in 67-degree weather, Chavarin (17:47) finished 22 seconds ahead of Saldana (18:09) on the 3.1-mile course.

Bulldog teammates Edgar Torres (19:14), Manuel Baez (20:33), Manpreet Dhami (20:35) and Jacob Edwards (20:44) took 15th, 27th, 28th and 30th, respectively.

Hawk teammates Carlos Murillo (19:11), Joaquin Garcia (20:30), Favian Castellanos (21:23) and Miguel Villafan (21:20) placed 14th, 29th, 36th and 38th, respectively.

Torres and Murillo earned second-team, all-WAC honors.

Ceres High (104) edged out Central Valley (123) for fourth place in the team standings.

Patterson (41), Livingston (49), Los Banos (92), Pacheco (160) and Central Catholic (176) placed first, second, third, sixth and seventh, respectively.

GIRLS RESULTS
Bulldog standout Lisette Carretero was awarded an all-WAC patch for the second straight season.

She placed third overall (22:22) at the league championships last week in Ceres.

Ceres High's Jennifer Cisneros (22:52), Karina Torres (24:32), Laura Espinoza (25:37) and Arcelia Hermosillo (25:45) finished ninth, 19th, 27th and 31st, respectively.

Cisneros made the WAC Second Team. She missed first-team accolades by one place.

Evelyn Andrade was Central Valley's top finisher (18th, 24:16).

Hawk teammate Ivonne Orozco (24:46) took 22nd.

The Bulldogs (89 points) placed fourth as a team.

Livingston (31), Los Banos (63), Patterson (69) and Pacheco (112) finished first, second, third and fifth, respectively.
