Central Valley Higb School’s girls soccer team placed third at the Oakdale Tournament.

Central Valley’s girls soccer program managed to place third at the Oakdale Tournament earlier this month despite competing shorthanded.

“We did better than I expected,” said Hawks’ head coach Miguel Larranaga, who has yet to finalize his roster as additions will be made following the conclusion of the club season. “We didn’t have the whole team there. I only had nine varsity players playing in the tournament. I moved up five junior-varsity players. The girls we moved up played so amazing.”

Central Valley (7-1-1) accumulated two wins, one loss and one tie in Oakdale.

“I’m very happy with the team right now,” Larranaga said. “The girls are very motivated. They want to win.”

The Hawks avenged a 2-0 loss with a 3-2 win over Enochs in the third-place game on Dec. 7.

“They were expecting to beat us again,” Larranaga said. “We surprised them. We finished when we had the opportunities.”

Sophomore Bella Ayala led Central Valley in scoring with two goals.

Freshman Evelyn Rivera scored once.

Marcella Larranaga dished out one assist.

Magnolia Tavizon totaled eight saves at goalkeeper.

Central Valley shut out Riverbank 8-0 on Dec. 7.

Aaliyah Jauregui led the Hawks with three goals and one assist.

Rivera added two goals.

Larranaga, Tavizon and Ayala all contributed one goal.

Enochs dealt Central Valley its first loss of the season on Dec. 6.

The Eagles prevailed by shutout, 2-0.

“We wasted all of our opportunities,” coach Larranaga said. “We didn’t put them in. That was the difference.”

Central Valley and Ripon battled to a 2-2 tie in the opening round on Dec. 6.

“We should have won,” Miguel Larranaga said.

Sophomore Camila Orozco accounted for both of the Hawks’ goals.

Sophomore Aaralyn Jauregui chipped in with one assist.
