Central Valley’s girls tennis team made program history this past week.
The Hawks won their first-ever league title.
“We’ve had some good girls tennis teams,” head coach Nimrat Chahal said. “This is our first conference championship. All credit goes to the girls. They’re the ones out there playing and competing. They don’t’ quit.”
Central Valley improved to 12-0 overall and 11-0 in the Western Athletic Conference standings after topping Pacheco, Johansen and Livingston.
“Our goal this year was to win a league championship,” Chahal said. “They were able to accomplish that, which is awesome. They knew what was on the line and competed to get it. We’re still trying to accomplish more.”
Central Valley won the WAC title outright after topping Pacheco 8-1 on Thursday in Ceres.
“We’re definitely not a tennis school,” Chahal said. “To be able to win a league championship is an awesome feeling. It’s cool because the girls deserve it. They work hard.”
The Hawks won all three doubles and five of six doubles matches versus the Panthers.
Valerie Espinoza and Valeria Sanchez Luna prevailed, 6-4, 6-2, in No. 1 doubles play.
Melanie Chavez and IIyana Vidal prevailed, 6-1, 7-5, in No. 2 doubles play.
Genesis Velazquez Pedraza and Selena Cubillo prevailed, 6-2, 6-1, in No. 3 doubles play.
Aleena Higle prevailed, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, in No. 1 singles play.
Aaliyah Jauregui prevailed, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 3 singles play.
Jasleen Kaur prevailed, 6-0, 2-6, 6-3, in No. 4 singles play.
Lizeth Cazarez Perez prevailed, 6-4, 6-4, in No. 5 singles play.
Harkiran Sandhu prevailed, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 6 singles play.
Central Valley shut out Johansen 9-0 on Wednesday in Ceres.
The Hawks swept all six singles and three doubles matches against the Vikings.
Higle prevailed, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 1 singles play.
Mikalynne Tapia prevailed, 6-1, 6-3, in No. 2 singles play.
Jauregui prevailed, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 3 singles play.
Cazarez Perez prevailed, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0, in No. 4 singles play.
Harkiran Sandhu prevailed, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 5 singles play.
Espinoza prevailed, 6-2, 6-1, in No. 6 singles play.
Sanchez Luna and Cubillo prevailed, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 1 doubles play.
Chavez and Vidal prevailed, 6-2, 6-0, in No. 2 doubles play.
Velazquez Pedraza and Roxana Orozco prevailed, 6-2, 6-1, in No. 3 doubles play.
Central Valley was guaranteed at least a share of the WAC crown following its 5-4 victory at Livingston on Oct. 7.
“We’re the best team and we’ve showed it every match,” Chahal said.
The Hawks won four of six singles and one of three doubles matches versus the Wolves.

Jauregui prevailed, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 3 singles play.
Cazarez Perez prevailed, 6-4, 6-2, in No. 5 singles play.
Sandhu prevailed, 7-6 (7-2), forfeit, in No. 6 singles play.
Chavez and Vidal prevailed, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 2 doubles play.
Central Valley’s girls tennis championship year will be displayed on a banner inside the school’s gymnasium in the near future.
“The players on this team will always be able to look up at it and remember this season,” Chahal said. “There’s nothing up there right now.”
