Central Valley High School varsity boys basketball head coach Darryl Dickson expected more from his team.

The Hawks won two of three games while finishing in third place at Liberty High School's 29th Annual Stonebarger Tournament this past week in Brentwood.

"I really thought we should have made it to the finals," Dickson said. "We need to do a better job starting out games stronger. We need some more structure in the locker room."

Central Valley's Ryan Donnelly and Jaron Dickson earned all-tourney honors.

Ryan averaged 17.3 points per game. Jaron totaled 42 points.

"They played the most consistent," coach Dickson said.

Central Valley closed out the tournament with a 53-47 win over Merced on Saturday.

Donnelly had a team-high 17 points.

Dickson, Kendel Johnson, Parker Griffin and Diego Sanchez added 16, eight, seven and five points, respectively.

"Overall, we played well enough to place third," Darryl said. "We need to work on being more consistent."

Central Valley lost 60-57 to Concord in the semifinals.

The Hawks battled back from an 18-point deficit before falling.
Donnelly (15), Sanchez (12) and Dickson (11) scored in double figures for Central Valley.

Johnson and Ja'Quan Gardner both tallied seven points.

Central Valley pulled away for a 67-59 victory while competing against Enochs on Thursday.

Donnelly totaled 20 points for the Hawks, who led 27-25 at the break.

Dickson, Johnson, Griffin, Gardner and Juan Manriquez netted 15, 12, 10, six and two points, respectively.

Central Valley improved its overall record to 4-2. The Hawks will participate in the Denair Tournament this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
