“It feels great to be recognized for what I did this season,” Solis said.

Alex will suit up for the Blue team, which features standouts from Central Valley, Modesto High, Downey, Enochs, Modesto Christian, Central Catholic, Big Valley, Riverbank, Pitman and Orestimba.

The Gold team features talent from Ceres High, Beyer, Johansen, Gregori, Hughson, Waterford, Turlock, Turlock Christian, Patterson and Oakdale.

Solis and Central Valley lost twice to Adrian Magdaleno, Brock DeWitt and crosstown-rival Ceres High during the Western Athletic Conference season.

“I’m pretty competitive,” Solis said. “I want to win, especially with the Ceres High boys on the other side. I don’t know them personally. I haven’t played against them outside of high school.”

Alex was selected to the 2018 WAC First Team.

A junior utility player with the Hawks, Solis batted .386 with three triples, eight doubles, 17 RBIS, 19 runs and 12 stolen bases in 25 games.

He ranked first in the WAC in hits (11), triples (1) and stolen bases (5), second in doubles (3) and walks (7), third in batting average (.379), RBIs (7) and on-base percentage (.500), fifth in runs (7), and sixth in slugging percentage (.551).

Solis totaled 57 strikeouts while logging 43 innings at pitcher.

“I was a lot more dedicated to putting in time outside of practice this year,” said Alex, who earned second-team all-WAC honors as a sophomore. “I’d go to the park with my brother (Sergio).”

The Blue team will practice at Modesto High this Friday.

The all-star contest will be held at Stanislaus State on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.

“It will be a good chance to get looked at by college coaches,” Solis said. “I’ll ball out for them. I’m comfortable with my capabilities. There’s no pressure. It (tougher competition) pushes me to do even better.”
