Ceres High School's varsity baseball team received contributions from 10 different players during its 6-0 win over Downey in non-league play on March 12 in Modesto.

"We did what we needed to do to win," Bulldogs head coach John Bussard said.

Senior pitcher Haydon Turpin allowed just one hit and struck out nine over seven innings for Ceres High, which improved to 7-2-1 overall.

"That was his best performance of the year so far," Bussard said. "He got ahead on hitters. He was able to locate his fastball."

Dylan Canatsy, Jimbo Pernetti and Devon Ruger starred on offense.

Jimmy Bates, Alan Marquez, Brandon Machado, Brad Bussard, Brent Bussard and Brett Conway chipped in as well.

Canatsy batted 1-for-3 from the plate with one double, two RBIs and one run.

Pernetti and Ruger both batted 2-for-4 with one double, one RBI and one run.

Bates and Marquez singled and scored once.

Machado and Brad Bussard collected one RBI each.

Brent Bussard had one run.

Conway singled.

Ceres High scored four times in the top of the second inning.

The Bulldogs added two insurance runs in the seventh inning.

Ceres High earned its seventh win of the preseason.

"This is where we should be," coach Bussard said. "I think we could have done better. Offensively, when we're on, we put up some huge numbers. Defensively, we've been pretty solid. We've shown we have depth, pitching-wise."
