• Ceres High varsity baseball team improves to 2-8 in non-league play

Ceres High’s varsity baseball team snapped a four-game losing skid with a 5-4 win at Hilmar on March 15.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-8 against non-league opponents.

Ceres High starting pitcher Chris Madariaga allowed three runs and five hits with five strikeouts and five walks while picking up the victory.

Michael Aveytia retired all three batters he faced via strikeout in the final inning to earn the save.

The Bulldogs managed to beat the Yellowjackets despite collecting no extra-base hits.

Brock Moore batted 1-for-1 with two RBIs and one run.

Gabe Flores batted 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run.

Justin Prestridge batted 1-for-3 with one run.

Daniel Gamez plated one run.

Aveytia and Andrew Kommavong both scored once.

Brock DeWitt singled.

The Bulldogs tallied all five of their runs in the top of the fourth inning.

The Yellowjackets made the contest interesting by scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Ceres High lost 7-6 to East Union on March 14 at Art McRae Field.

The Bulldogs totaled eight hits on offense.

Josh Pernetti batted 2-for-4 with one homer, two RBIs and one run.

Prestridge batted 3-for-5 with one run.

Efrain Brito batted 1-for-4 with one double and one run.

Moore and Dominic Magdaleno both batted 1-for-3 with one run.

Aveytia tallied one run.

Prestridge, Ceres High’s starting pitcher, surrendered five earned runs and seven hits with one strikeout and one walk in defeat.

Visiting Merced edged Ceres High 5-3 on March 11.

The Bears broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh inning.

Bulldog starter Isaiah Alcorn turned in a dominant pitching performance.

He totaled 10 strikeouts in 61/3 innings.

Alcorn allowed three runs and four hits.

Flores led the way on offense by battling 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run.

Brito batted 2-for-3 with one double and one run.

DeWitt batted 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Kommavong batted 1-for-3 with one double and one run.

Prestridge and Cesar Alvarez both singled.

Ceres High (2-8) will begin Western Athletic Conference play this week.

The Bulldogs will play Lathrop today in Ceres and Friday on the road. Both games will begin at 4 p.m.
