Hard work paying off for Dawgs, Hawks

Central Valley boys track and field standout Darrius Jackson placed 10th in the 400 while competing at the Modesto Junior College Invitational on Friday.

Ceres High’s and Central Valley’s track and field programs competed at the Hughson Vintage and Modesto Junior College invitationals, respectively, this past week.

The Bulldogs and Hawks also attended conference meets.

“I’m really happy with the effort,” said Central Valley Coach Michael Mrgudic. “They competed. We had a ton of personal records set.”

“It’s a fun group to coach,” said Ceres High leader Brett Johnson. “They’re working hard. They’re very competitive and supportive of each other.”

Ceres High’s boys racked up 75.5 points en route to a fourth-place finish at the Saturday event.

Hilmar (123), Ripon (110) and Hughson (82) took first, second and third, respectively.

Bulldog Dakota Adams placed second in the pole vault (10-06) and 10th in the triple jump (34-07).

Manny Mendoza placed third in the 200 (24.27) and 400 (53.66).

Faiva Tuakalau placed third in the shot put (40-011/2) and 11th in the discus (101-101/2).

Ricky Stanley placed fourth in the high jump (5-0) and seventh in the 110 hurdles (21.02).

Bryan Gallardo placed fifth in the discus (106-07) and eighth in the shot put 934-051/2).

Angel Palma placed sixth in the shot put (37-00).

Reis Smith placed sixth in the 400 (56.42) and seventh in the long jump (16-07).

Cesar Bolanos Aleman placed sixth in the 800 (2:12) and eighth in the 400 (56.99).

Lebron Stallworth placed seventh in the 100 (14.00).

Tarrell Lee-Gill placed seventh in the triple jump (36-001/4).

Daniel Baker placed seventh in the shot put (36-011/2) and 16th in the discus (89-031/2).

Yahir Ruiz placed 11th in the 800 (2:27) and 12th in the 3,200 (12:31).

Aaron Lopez placed 13th in the 800 (2:28).

James Arbaugh placed 15th in the 200 (28.93).

Ceres High’s 4x400 relay team of Reis Smith, Cesar Bolanos Aleman, Ricky Stanley and Manny Mendoza placed first (3:46).

Cere High’s 4x100 relay team of Smith, Stanley, Lee-Gill and Stallworth placed third (45.46).

Ceres High’s girls finished with 40 points while placing fifth overall in the team standings.

Ripon (173), Hughson (132.5) and Bret Harte (95.5) took first, second and third, respectively.

Bulldog Jillian Mande placed third in the discus (83-01) and sixth in the shot put (28-03).

Lilly Blevins placed third in the shot put (30-02) and fifth in the discus (79-041/2).

Jaden Stahl placed sixth in the triple jump (26-02), seventh in the 800 (2:45) and 10th in the 1,600 (6:48).u

Serena Chalk placed seventh in the shot put (28-011/2).

Alexa Sandoval placed eighth in the shot put (27-00) and ninth in the discus (67-07).

Monica Cendejas placed eighth in the triple jump (24-09) and 19th in the long jump (11-00).

Brianna Luna placed ninth in the 1,600 (6:35) and 3,200 (14:10).

Jelaine Esguerra placed 10th in the 100 (14.45) and 14th in the 200 (31.53).

Citlali Fuentes placed 11th in the triple jump (21-111/2).

Giulia Puonzo placed 11th in the 3,200 (14:23), 13th in both the 1,600 (7:11) and 800 (2:59), and 15th in the 400 (1:16).

Jazmyne Arendt placed 12th in the high jump (4-0).

Jayda Bryant placed 12th in the 200 (31.05), 14th in the 300 hurdles (1:05) and 16th in the 100 hurdles (23.84).

Emily Esparza placed 12th in the long jump (12-09), 15th in the 200 (31.55) and 19th in the 100 (15.13).

Alexa Romo placed 13th in the 200 (31.12), 14th in the 100 hurdles (22.57) and 15th in the 100 (14.85).

Izabella Jacquez placed 15th in the discus (61-051/2).

Savannah Weese placed 15th in the 300 hurdles (1:07), 16th in the long jump (11-11) and 17th in the 100 hurdles (25.23).

Ceres High’s 4x400 relay team of Leilah Elsumeri, Itzel Contreras Flores, Brianna Luna and Jaden Stahl placed third (5:14).

Ceres High’s 4x100 relay team of Jayda Bryant, Alexa Romo, Jelaine Esguerra and Emily Esparza placed eighth (57.11).

Bulldog athletes set 38 personal records at the Hughson Invitational.

“That’s the most exciting thing,” Johnson said.

Central Valley’s boys finished 11th at the MJC Invitational.

The Hawks totaled just four points.

Pitman (131), Enochs (62) and Tracy (57) took first, second and third, respectively.

Central Valley’s Jadin Navarro placed fourth in the 300 hurdles (46.53), 13th in the 110 hurdles (20.60) 25th in the 200 (26.22).

Darrius Jackson placed 10th in the 400 (55.17) and 20th in the 100 (12.20).

Ricardo Perez placed 14th in the discus (107-04).

Julian Alvarez placed 16th in the 300 hurdles (51.51).

Elijah Jackson placed 18th in the discus (102-07) and 29th in the shot put (32-03/4).

Central Valley’s 4x100 relay team of Xavier Ramirez, Julian Alvarez, Luis Flores and Darius Jackson placed seventh (47.67).

Central Valley’s girls didn’t post a team score.

Modesto High (91) and Tracy (86) took first and second, respectively.

Turlock (50) and Sierra (50) tied for third.

Hawk Aaliyah Smith placed eighth in the 300 hurdles (54.63).

Giselle Mendez placed 12th in the long jump (13-111/2).

Mariana Campos placed 13th in the 1,600 (6:03), 17th in the 800 (2:44).

Matalyn Mastropierro placed 16th in the high jump (3-10).

Sofia Alvarez placed 16th in the 300 hurdles (59.20), 33rd in the long jump (11-11) and 43rd in the 100 (14.97).
