Hawk swimmers set 51 personal records

Members of Central Valley’s track and field program are peaking at the right time.

Hawk athletes set a combined 51 personal records while competing against the Pacheco Panthers and Grace Davis Spartans during the final week of the Western Athletic Conference regular season on April 23 at CUSD Stadium.

“With it being our Senior Night, it was a special day,” head coach Michael Mrgudic said. “I’m super proud of our athletes and coaches. Everyone wants to be at their best right now. Now is not the time to take our feet off the gas. We need to double down.”

Central Valley’s girls team notched wins against the Panthers (62-43) and Spartans (56-47).

The Hawks placed fifth in the WAC standings with a 3-4 record.

Central Valley set 22 personal records versus Pacheco and Grace Davis.

“That’s a testament to the hard work they’ve put in,” Mrgudic said.

The Hawks’ 4x100 relay team of Ayleen Apreza, Kassandra Torres, Andrea Tejeda and Eliana Tamayo placed first (53.70).

Central Valley’s 4x400 relay team of Apreza, Torres, Tejeda and Tamayo placed first (4:49.50).

Central Valley’s 4x800 relay team of Alyssa Ontiveroz, Milianna Rios, Harkiran Sandhu and Alexa Gudino placed first (13:10.97).

Tamayo placed first in the 200 (28.18) and second in the 100 (13.49).

Brianna Espinoza placed first in the discus (82-4) and fourth in the shot put (23-9).

Tejeda placed first in the 400 (1:07.34) and fifth in the long jump (12-6).

Apreza placed second in the 800 (3:00.27).

Torres placed second in the 200 (28.42) and third in the 100 (13.58).

Cristina Carmona placed second in the shot put (26-91/2) and fourth in the discus (71-8).

Gudino placed second in the long jump (13-01/2) and eighth in the 400 (1:17.37).

The Hawks’ 4x400 relay team of Payton Meta McConnell, Jocelyn Rivera, Tarnjot Kaur and Damaris Cisneros placed third (5:12.99).

Karla Sarabia placed third in the 300 hurdles (1:07.02) and 11th in the 100 (14.96).

Central Valley’s 4x100 relay team of Sarabia, Cisneros, Meta McConnell and Sophia Alvarez placed fourth (56.95).

Kaur placed fourth in the long jump (12-61/4) and ninth in the 400 (1:17.72).

Alvarez placed fifth in the 200 (30.18) and sixth in the 100 (14.05).

Ontiveroz placed sixth in the 800 (3:17.49).

Kadynce Piceno placed sixth in the shot put (22-6) and discus (67-5).

Central Valley’s boys team tied Grace Davis (63-63) and lost to Pacheco (74-62).

The Hawks placed sixth in the WAC standings with a 1-5-1 record.

Central Valley set 29 personal records versus Grace Davis and Pacheco.

“It really shows how our boys are able to compete,” Mrgudic said.

Central Valley’s 4x400 relay team of Ernesto Martinez, Xavier Banta, Adam Victorino and Allen Sanchez placed first (3:49.87).

Jackson Stokes placed first in the pole vault (10-6).

Daniel Leon placed first in the 400 (55.18), and second in the 110 hurdles (18.82) and 300 hurdles (47.35).

Steve Duran placed first in the 110 hurdles (16.67) and high jump (5-8), and third in the long jump (19-8).

The Hawks’ 4x400 relay team of Duran, Antonio Burgos, Massimo Catalano and Ivan Quezada placed second (3:51.70).

Victorino placed second in the 200 (23.76) and fifth in the 100 (11.78).

Cristian Romero-Flores placed second in the shot put (33-51/2) and fifth in the discus (98-61/2).

Central Valley’s 4x100 relay team of Banta, Martinez, Sanchez and Victorino placed third (46.38).

Catalano placed third in the 300 hurdles (47.80).

Marco Gonzalez placed third in the shot put (32-2).

David Alvarado placed third in the discus (108-71/2) and 10th in the shot put (27-3).

Burgos placed third in the 200 (23.81) and fourth in the 100 (11.71).

Alexis Landa placed fourth in the 800 (2:09.80) and 3,200 (11:04.11), and fifth in the 1,600 (4:53.40).

Joel Jordan placed fourth in the shot put (32-0) and sixth in the discus (94-5).

Samuel Carrasco Garibay placed fourth in the 400 (1:05.51), eighth in the 200 (27.87) and ninth in the long jump (12-10).

Dillon Jenkins placed fifth in the 400 (1:09.10) and 11th in the 800 (2:55.03).

Sanchez placed sixth in the 200 (24.79) and seventh in the long jump (15-5).

Sebastian Maldonado placed sixth in the 300 hurdles (52.03), seventh in the 200 (26.71) and 14th in the 100 (12.79).


SOFTBALL

Ceres High’s softball team compiled a 2-2 record at the NorCal Classic this past week.

Central Valley had an 0-4 showing at the Tracy event.

“Our expectation was see some better competition,” head coach Josie Heacox said. “It was prep for playoffs.”

“The bracket we were placed in was no joke,” Hawks’ leader Jimmy Bates said. “There were really good teams. We showed at various times of games we can compete in stretches.”

Ceres High improved to 16-9 overall after topping Berkeley 9-3 on Friday.

The Bulldogs batted .400 from the plate as a team.

Emma Hernandez batted 2-for-3 with one double and four RBIs.

Bella Bravo batted 2-for-2 with one RBI and two runs.

Amaia Pritchett batted 1-for-2 with two runs.

Ceres High pitcher Elizabeth Figueroa totaled five strikeouts and one walk in six innings.

Ceres High lost 6-3 to Enochs on Friday.

The Bulldogs totaled five hits against the Eagles.

Bravo batted 2-for-3 with one triple, one double and three RBIs.

Figueroa batted 1-for-2 with one run.

Gabriela Ortiz batted 1-for-3 with one run.

Alizae Cole had nine strikeouts and two walks at pitcher.

Manteca edged Ceres High 6-5 on Thursday.

The Bulldogs had eight hits.

Bravo batted 2-for-4 with one homer, two RBIs and one walk.

Gabriela Ortiz batted 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run.

Kylie Bond batted 1-for-2 with one run.

Ceres High held on for a 7-6 victory over Bear Creek on Thursday.

Cole accumulated eight strikeouts and five walks at pitcher.

She also contributed on offense as the Bulldogs totaled six hits.

She batted 3-for-4 with one triple and three runs.

Bravo batted 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run.

Figueroa batted 1-for-3 with one run.

Tatianna Ortiz collected one RBI.

Central Valley dropped to 12-12 overall following Saturday’s 9-1 loss to Elk Grove at the Tracy Sports Complex.

The Hawks collected just one hit against the Thundering Herd.

Madelyn Morales singled.

Gabriela Delatorre accounted for Central Valley’s lone run.

Central Valley lost 11-3 to Merced on Saturday.

The Hawks totaled five hits versus the Bears.

Morales batted 2-for-3 with one double, one RBI and one run.

Alicia Espinoza batted 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Reylena Herrera batted 1-for-3 with one run.

Abigail Krauss knocked in one run.

Delatorre scored once.

Destiny Herrera singled.

Central Valley lost 21-3 to Calaveras in four innings on Thursday at Legacy Fields. 

The Red Hawks limited the Hawks to two hits.

Morales batted 1-for-2 with one triple, one RBI and one run.

Brooklynn Steeley batted 1-for-1 with one double and one run.

Delatorre scored one run.

Steeley yielded no earned runs and seven hits with four strikeouts in four innings at pitcher. 

Central Valley lost 16-0 to Central Catholic in five innings on Saturday.

Jaren Bass accounted for one of the Hawks’ four hits.

She doubled.

Monster Prudhel, Alicia Espinoza and Valerie Espinoza all singled.
