Hawks 12th in Lincoln

Central Valley's Nick Genasci placed first with a 4-0 record while competing in the 120-pound weight bracket of the Mark Fuller Invitational on Jan. 15 in Lincoln.

The members of Central Valley High School’s boys and girls wrestling programs traveled to Lincoln on Jan. 15 to compete at the Mark Fuller Invitational.

The Hawks accumulated 53 points while finishing in 12th place in the combined team standings.

Vacaville (231.5), Whitney (160) and Woodcreek (133.5) took first, second and third, respectively.

Wrestling programs from 34 different schools attended the event, which was staged on eight mats outdoors.

“The tournament was moved to outside on the football field,” Central Valley girls head coach Brandy Cordova said. “It was unique.”

Nick Genasci led Central Valley’s boys team.

He placed first with a 4-0 record in the 120-pound division.

Genasci beat McNair’s Kyle Tith (pin), Pitman’s Padilla (pin), Center’s Conner Goldfarb (pin) and Woodcreek’s Devin Aguilar (pin).

Adan Garcia placed sixth with a 3-3 record at 132 pounds.

He beat Nevada Union’s Sam Kesel (pin) and Cosumnes Oaks’ Nathaniel Ong (decision). He also won by forfeit.

Garcia lost to Pitman’s Alejandro Talamante (pin), East Nicolaus’ Truman Lizardo (pin) and Vacaville’s Ben Giangrasso (default).

Albert Gonzales compiled a 2-2 record at 132 pounds.

He won by forfeit and topped Nevada Union’s Sam Kesel (pin).

Gonzales lost to East Nicolaus’ Lizardo (pin) and Vacaville’s Giangrasso (major decision).

Austin Melman compiled a 2-2 record at 145 pounds.

He beat Woodcreek’s Tyler Berlin (pin) and Center’s Luis Ponce (pin).

Melman lost to Reed’s Darrel Chancey (pin) and Pitman’s Davian Padilla (pin).

Joey Zuniga compiled a 1-2 record at 120 pounds.

He beat Vacaville’s Anthony Pedigo (decision).

Zuniga lost to McNair’s Tith (pin) and Woodcreek’s Aguilar (pin).

Israel Villarreal compiled a 1-2 record at 126 pounds.

He beat Antelope’s Maddox Richards (pin).

Villarreal lost to Live Oak’s Joseph Contreras (pin) and Lincoln’s Jesse Smith (pin).

David Contreras compiled an 0-2 record at 106 pounds.

He lost to Whitney’s Kaleb Rodgers (pin) and Lincoln’s Jesus Juarez (pin).

Julian Lugo compiled an 0-2 record at 138 pounds.

He lost to Vacaville’s Qusai Marini (pin) and Woodcreek’s Christopher Guide (pin).

Makhai Smith compiled an 0-2 record at 285 pounds.

He lost to Lincoln’s Ediberto Calixto (pin) and Kimball’s Gabriel Quintero (decision).

Camden Cai compiled an 0-2 record at 285 pounds.

He lost to Calixto (injury forfeit) and Vacaville’s Miguel Preciado (pin).

Brianna Espinoza led Central Valley’s girls team.

She placed third with a 1-2 record at 235 pounds.

Espinoza beat Live Oaks’ Elizabeth Arriaga (pin).

She lost to East Nicolaus’ Julia Gomez (pin) and Reed’s Maria Aino (pin).

Savannah Gomez placed fifth with a 2-2 record.

She won twice by forfeit against Oakmont’s Abbigayle Morek.

Gomez lost to Del Oro’s Nicole Fentzek (pin) and Rodriguez’s Giselle Menegatti (pin).

Keilany Torres, Maya Singh, Yahaira Torres and Marianna Carranza all compiled 0-2 records.

Keilany Torres lost to Rocklin’s Alexis Barone (pin) and Nevada Union’s Marley Lopin (pin) at 101 pounds.

Singh lost to Nevada Union’s Genesis Olson (pin) and McNair’s Arreeyu Phasools (pin) at 111 pounds.

Yahaira Torres lost to Woodcreek’s Hailey Aguayo (pin) and Reed’s Elizabeth Reed (pin) at 116 pounds.

Carranza lost to River City’s Adena Habib (pin) and Will C. Wood’s Casey Fuller (pin) at 126 pounds.
