Central Valley’s varsity boys golf team turned in a program-best performance while competing at the John Montano Invitational on March 9 at Merced Country Club.
The Hawks placed fourth overall with a score of 373 at the 19-team tournament.
“We shocked people,” Hawks’ sophomore standout Matteo Bonales said. “Everybody was surprised by the improvement.”
Bonales fired a 4-over-par 76 en route to earning a fourth-place medal.
Hawk teammates Kadin Richardson, Thomas Carrillo and Armando Guajardo shot 92, 102 and 103, respectively.
“For the first tournament of the season, it wasn’t that bad of a score or placement,” Bonales said. “Our team had the lowest score out of any of the other teams from the Central California Conference.”
