Ceres High’s varsity boys track and field program brought home a team award and individual medals from the Modesto Junior College Invitational.

“I’m going to take the trophy to practice and display it at the front office,” Bulldogs head coach Brett Johnson said. “I always love it when the kids get recognized. They’re fun to be around. They work hard.”

The Bulldogs placed third at the 19-team event, staged on April 2.

“It’s pretty cool,” said Johnson, whose been coaching track and field at Ceres High for five seasons . “This is the first time we’ve placed in the top three at a meet since I’ve been here. We would have finished higher if we had a full team. A lot of the kids couldn’t go because they were gone on vacation.”

Marcellus Boykins placed second in the triple jump.

Myron Sichanpheng placed second in the long jump and third in the triple jump.

Seth Gibson placed second in the 110 hurdles and third in the long jump.

Conner Johnson placed third in the shot put.

Ceres High’s 4x400 relay team of Boykins, Gibson, Isaac Leon and Blake Borba placed third.

Julia Pata led Ceres High’s girls team with a first-place finish in the shot put.

She shattered the old meet record.

Azia Brewster placed second in the high jump.
