Ceres High’s varsity boys basketball team played host to Western Athletic Conference-newcomer Beyer last week.
The Bulldogs struggled to keep pace with the Patriots.
Beyer outscored Ceres High 50-18 in the first half on its way to coasting to 79-24 victory on Dec. 19 at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs dropped to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the league standings.
The Patriots improved to 8-2 and 2-0.
“It’s a different level of basketball,” Bulldogs’ head coach T.J. Walker said while talking about the strength of the revamped WAC.
Sophomore Derrick O’Neal led the Bulldogs with eight points, three assists and two rebounds.
Freshman Verlis Smith had four points and one rebound.
Isaiah Alcorn had three points and one rebound.
Brock DeWitt had three points.
Josh Pernetti had two points and three rebounds.
Christian Murry had two points, one rebound and one steal.
Malakhi Shimon had two points and one rebound.
Brock Moore had one rebound.
Ceres High shot 24 percent (9 of 38) from the field), 18 percent (3 of 17) from 3-point range and 30 percent (3 of 10) from the free-throw line.
The Bulldogs committed 20 turnovers and grabbed just 10 rebounds.
Ceres High trailed 50-18 at intermission.
