The Ceres High varsity volleyball team upset playoff-bound East Union 11-25, 25-10, 25-20, 15-25, 15-11 in Valley Oak League play on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.
The stunning victory came two weeks after the Bulldogs suffered a devastating 23-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-13 loss to crosstown rival Central Valley. The Hawks earned their first-ever conference win in their two-year history, snapping a 19-match losing streak.
"From that point to here really shows the growth of our team," Ceres coach Delise Young said. "We've gotten a lot better. We fought through that emotional drop."
Chelsea Lomeli led the Bulldogs with 25 assists. Kaylee Brown tallied 11 kills. Leah Rose, Jode Johnson and Amy Raymond contributed five digs, four blocks and three aces, respectively.
"Chelsea did a phenomenal job setting and being all over the court. And not letting the ball hit the ground," Young said.
