Lady Hawks win twice at nets, keep Sac-Joaquin Section playoff hopes alive

Central Valley High School's varsity girls tennis team won twice this past week and remained in the hunt for the Western Athletic Conference's final playoff berth.

The Hawks improved to 5-4 in the league standings following Thursday's 7-2 victory against visiting Livingston.

Central Valley swept all three doubles and four of six singles matches.

Deja Jackson and Ali Martinez defeated Yajaira Barragan and Marisol Naranjo 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles play.

Virdiana Gomez and Marcela Sanchez defeated Jennifer Garcia and Maggie Mendoza 6-3, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles play.

Karla Delgado and Gabriela Romo defeated Cynthia Frias-Ocampo and Maria Vera 6-3, 6-4 in No. 3 doubles play.

Elizabeth Mejia defeated Karina Cruz 6-4, 6-3 in No. 2 singles play.

Jasmine Martinez defeated Aidalee Torres 6-2, 6-4 in No. 3 singles play.

Emely Amaya defeated Tylerr Metcalf 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 in No. 5 singles play.

Ana Arellano defeated Marbella Mascorro 6-4, 6-3 in No. 6 singles play.

Central Valley edged visiting Patterson 5-4 for the second time this season on Tuesday, Oct. 2 in Ceres.

Tied at 4-all, Jackson and Ali Martinez propelled the Hawks past the Tigers.

Deja and Ali won 6-3, 6-3 versus Lauren Cabonce and Victoria Paden.

Arellano exacted revenge against Jennifer Camberos. Ana won in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) at No. 6 singles.

"Without that win, we would have been on the losing side," Rodriguez said.

Mejia defeated Kelby Norfleet 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 singles play.

Jasmine Martinez defeated Kendal Norfleet 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 in No. 3 singles play.

Delgado and Romo defeated Sandy Lou and Santana Mata 6-1, 6-4 in No. 3 doubles play.
