Local youth baseball teams compete at Bel Passi Invitational

The Ceres Blaze 10-year-old travel baseball team secured a top-four finish at the Bel Passi Invitational this past week.

The Ceres All-Stars did not place.

The Blaze won three of five games at the six-team tourney.

The Blaze lost 3-2 to Bel Passi Royal in the semifinals on Tuesday, July 26.

The Blaze walked in the winning run in the final inning.

"The kids were a little disappointed," head coach Nino Mendez said. "But that's how baseball goes sometimes."

The Blaze escaped with a 5-4 win over Bel Passi Royal on Monday, July 25 and defeated Newman by forfeit on Sunday, July 24.

The Blaze topped Bel Passi White 8-5 on Saturday, July 23.

The Blaze lost 5-4 to Bel Passi Red on Friday, July 22.

"It came down to hitting," Mendez said.

The All-Stars dropped all four of their games and finished the summer with an 0-15 record.

The All-Stars lost 10-0 to Bel Passi Red on July 25, 15-0 to Bel Passi Red and 13-2 to Bel Passi White on July 23, and 18-0 to Bel Passi Royal on July 21.

"I know the kids are disappointed," head coach Josh Davis said. "But they gave it their all. It was a learning experience for next year."
