Ceres High and Central Valley will be among the 21 schools competing at the 46th Ceres Invitational this Saturday.

The varsity wrestling tournament will get underway at 9 a.m.

The top three teams win trophies.

Individual medals will be awarded to first- through sixth-place finishers.

The host Bulldogs placed third last season.

The crosstown-rival Hawks took ninth.

"I think we're going to have a great shot at taking home another team trophy," Ceres High head coach Jon Nowicki said. "That would be a big accomplishment."

Ceres High will be led by Gabriel Balderas (120s), Joey Bettencourt (106/113s), Nick Moran (145s), Lucas Silva (Hwt.), Armando Morales (Hwt.) and Ruben Sanchez (220s). Eric Bejaran (195s), Ivan Raya (182/170s), Dustin Palacek (160s), Ritchie Solis (152s), Eric Garcia (138s) and Gabriel Solis (132s) will also compete for the Bulldogs.

Balderas, a state-meet participant as a sophomore, was runner-up in 2010 and 2009.

Bettencourt took second last year.

Moran and Silva finished third and fourth, respectively.

Morales and Sanchez both placed sixth.

Central Valley will be led by Michael Manzur (113s), Isaiah Gonzales (106s), Raul Godinez (126s), Louis Gonzales (132s), Luis Torres (145s), Rick Brown (170/160s) and Marcus Rodriguez (Hwt.)

"Our expectations never change," Hawks head coach Rob Beckhart said. "We want to finish in the top 5. I think we're capable of doing that. But it's not going to be easy. We have a lot of young kids on the team."
