Downey defeated the Ceres High boys tennis team 4-1 in Modesto on Thursday.

"We were embarrassed by a team I felt we could compete with," said Ceres coach Brandon Moring.

The Bulldogs fell to 2-13 in the Central California Conference standings.

The Knights improved to 5-10 in league.

Ceres dropped two of three singles and both doubles matches.

Russell Alcorn beat Downey's Cameron Son in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, in No. 1 singles play.

"Russell played good but that's about it," Moring said.

Ben Tovar beat Ceres' Roland Salazar in two sets, 6-2, 6-4, in No. 2 singles play.

Walt White beat Ceres' Kyle Fliflet in two sets, 6-2, 6-1, in No. 3 singles play.

Jennings Lee and Josh Lee beat Ceres' Kenny Strangio and David Davilla in two sets, 7-5, 6-4, in No. 1 doubles play.

Cody Lucas and Bryan Karam beat Ceres' Warren McDonald and Carlos Jara in two sets, 7-5, 6-0, in No. 2 doubles play.

The Panthers defeated the Bulldogs at Modesto High School on Tuesday, April 20.

Modesto won three singles and two doubles matches.

Modesto improved to 9-4 in the CCC, while Ceres fell to 2-11 in league.

Feliks Sammorski defeated Salazar 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 singles play.

Baxter Waldron defeated Strangio 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 singles play.

Patrick Cimino defeated Davilla 6-0, 6-4 in No. 3 singles play.

Loren Shu and Ryan Espinoza defeated McDonald and Jara 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles play.

Daniel Kileen and Jim Logsdon defeated Jose Magana and Andi Perez 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 doubles play.
