Central Valley High School's varsity wrestling lineup will look dramatically different this season.

"It's going to be tough to repeat what we did last year," Hawks head coach Rob Beckhart said. "We did lose a lot of leaders. The expectations don't change. They're still expected to come out and perform."

Central Valley lost 10 members to graduation, excluding Anthony Centeno (Sr., 160s), Miguel Espinoza (Sr., 138s), Louis Gonzales (Sr., 132s), Rose Moore (Sr., 120s), Adrian Vizcaino (So., 182s), Rick Brown (So., 170s) and Michael Manzur (So., 113s).

Manzur, Centeno and Espinoza placed second, third and fourth, respectively, at the WAC tournament.

Vizcaino finished third at Escalon's Lloyd C. Engel Tournament as a freshman. He also contributed during team duals.

Jordan Sales (Sr., 220s), Marcus Rodriguez (Jr., Hwt.), Francisco Valdez (Jr., 145s ), Raul Godinez (So., 126s), Matt Smith (So., 195s), Isaiah Gonzales (So., 106) and Luis Torres (Fr., 145s) are new to the team.

Smith and Gonzales competed at the JV level last year.

Rodriguez and Godinez starred in football during the fall sports season.

Sales transferred from Atwater.

"We're young," Beckhart said. "We're going to make some mistakes. But as long as I see the effort and commitment, I don't see no reason why we can't compete with every team in the league. We'll surprise some people."

The Hawks enjoyed a banner year in 2010-11. Central Valley finished second overall in the WAC standings (4-1), participated in the Section team competition and sent 11 individuals to Divisionals. Upperclassmen Josh Beckhart, Jaime Lomeli, Jaime Tadeo and Jeffrey Phetsomphou had a combined record of 112-68. "It was by far our best season," coach Beckhart said. "Our seniors really carried us."

The Hawks will participate in tournaments in Ceres, Los Banos and Corona this month. The Hawks' WAC dual-meet schedule consists of matches against Ceres High, Central Catholic, Livingston, Patterson, Los Banos and Pacheco.
