The Ceres Sizzle 16-and-under travel softball team had a breakthrough performance at Rainbow Fields.

The Sizzle finished in first place while participating in the NSA Rev Honey Fastpitch Tournament.

"It's our best showing so far," head coach Mike Corsaut said. "Our last tournament, we didn't do too well."

The Sizzle posted a 5-1 record this past weekend. Ceres lost four times at Rainbow Fields three weeks earlier.

"Everything just clicked," Corsaut said. "We hit and played better defense."

The Sizzle won all three of their games on Sunday.

Third-seeded Ceres topped the No. 1 Renegades of Orcutt 4-1 for the title.

Monica Gonzalez pitched. She retired the side in order four times. Gonzalez scattered five hits.

The Sizzle made just one error on defense.

Ceres also collected wins against the No. 2 Livermore Velocity (8-6) and No. 6 Rio Vista Lady Rams (13-3).

Ceres edged Oakhurst Thunder 5-4 on Saturday.

The Sizzle suffered a 7-3 loss during their first meeting with Velocity.
