Recent Central Valley High School grad Alex Solis played in the Modesto Sunrise Rotary All-Star Baseball Classic for the second year in a row.

Recent Central Valley grad Alex Solis had a host of family members and friends watching from the stands while playing in the 30th Annual Modesto Sunrise Rotary High School All-Star Baseball Classic this past weekend in Turlock.

“It was a good feeling seeing them and hearing them cheer me on,” he said. “It put a big smile on my face.”

Solis and the Gold team lost 3-1 to the Blue team on Saturday at Stanislaus State.

The Gold squad featured players from Central Valley, Waterford, Turlock, Turlock Christian, Orestimba, Enochs, Gregori, Big Valley Christian and Modesto Christian.

The Blue squad featured talent from Ceres High, Hughson, Pitman, Central Catholic, Modesto High, Grace Davis, Beyer, Riverbank and Oakdale.

“I had a blast playing one last time in high school,” he said. “I knew a lot of the guys on both teams from playing together in the past. Everyone was having fun. There was no pressure.”

Solis batted 0-for-2 from the plate with two strikeouts.

He logged playing time at third base in the first, second and third innings, and shortstop in the fourth.

“It was definitely an honor to make the all-star team two years in a row,” Solis said. “It really is special. It feels good to have that recognition as one of the best players in Stanislaus County.”

Solis will also be remembered as one of Central Valley High School’s top players.

A four-year varsity member, Solis earned first-team all-conference honors the past two seasons and was a second-team pick as a sophomore.

He batted .339 with four homers, three triples, 31 doubles, 100 hits, 55 RBIs, 81 runs and 39 stolen bases in 105 career games.

He had an on-base plus slugging percentage of .985.

He totaled seven wins at pitcher with 184 strikeouts and three shutouts in 1592/3 innings.

Solis earned a baseball scholarship to Stanislaus State.
