Spikers fall to 5-7 in league standings

Johansen swept the Ceres High volleyball team 25-20, 25-22, 25-16 in Modesto Thursday night.

"We hurt ourselves more than they hurt us," said Ceres coach Sue Garcia. "Hitting balls out. Not getting serves in. Miscommunicating.

"We just never got in sync as a team."

Ceres missed eight serves in Game 1.

Elisha Ferguson tallied 11 assists, seven digs and two aces, Meghan Franksen had five kills and five digs and Krystle Brown added three kills and four digs for the fourth-place Bulldogs, who fell to 5-7 in the Modesto Metro Conference.

Ceres' Jessica Hunter had three kills and two blocks. Jennifer Arnold had two blocks. Katie Richards had four digs.

Danielle Goynes tallied 12 kills and seven blocks, Kim Payton dished out 29 assists, Dana Groves had seven digs and Courtney Houston added five aces for the third-place Vikings, who improved to 8-4 in the league standings.

Ceres compiled an 0-3 record against Johansen this season.

Ceres 3, Modesto 0

Meghan Franksen had nine kills, 11 digs and six aces, Elisha Ferguson had 22 assists and 11 digs and Krystle Brown had seven kills, three blocks and eight digs during the Bulldogs' 25-20, 25-23, 25-17 win over the Panthers in front of a feverish home fans on Tuesday, Oct. 19.

"They girls enjoyed having a crowd," Garcia said.

Jessica Hunter had four kills and two blocks, Arnold had two blocks and nine digs, Monica Hall had five aces and Jessica Mazza had four kills for the Bulldogs, who tallied 17 aces against the Panthers.

Cori Stubbs had six kills, Ali Barbosa had three blocks and Jennifer Amador had eight assists for Modesto, which fell to 3-8 in the league standings.

JV Dawgs drop to 4th in MMC

The Ceres High JV volleyball team lost twice in league this past week.
