Track & field team excels at MJC

The Ceres High varsity boys and girls track and field teams finished seventh and eighth, respectively, at the Ceres Invitational on Friday at Modesto Junior College.

Charlie Cunha, Ross Tate, Dingko Luangchai, Chris Gregg, James Gmachowski, Benny Perez, Ryan Leazer, Kevin Dupree, Cleo Payne and John Cook led the varsity boys.

Cunha finished second in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 41 feet, 111/2 inches and fourth in the long jump at 20-2.

Tate and Luangchai tied for second in the high jump. Both of them cleared 6 feet.

Gregg finished second in the 300 hurdles. He finished the race in a personal-best time of 43.15 seconds.

Gmachowski finished fifth in the shot put at 43-101/2 and sixth in the discus at 126.

Perez finished fifth in the 3,200 in a personal-best 10:39 and 10th in the 1,600 in 4:55.

Leazer finished sixth in the 200 in a personal-best 23.29 seconds.

Dupree finished ninth in the long jump at 19-6.

Payne finished 13th in the long jump at 18-11.

Cook finished 16th in the 1,600 at 5:10.

Karrah Brown, Heather Jones, Jessica Mazza, Melanie Casey, Vanessa Graham and Melanie Vega led the varsity girls.

Brown finished second in the 3,200 in 12:32.

Jones finished third in the 100 hurdles in 17.34 seconds and sixth in the 300 hurdles in 51.89 seconds.

Mazza finished third in the high jump at 4-10.

Casey finished sixth in the triple jump at 31-8.

Graham finished eighth in the 400 in a personal-best 1:07.58.

Vega finished eighth in the shot at 32-9.

Frosh-soph results

The Ceres High JV boys track and field team finished 10th at the Ceres Invitational.

Ray Green finished third in the triple jump (38-4) and high jump (5-4).

Andrew Chipponeri finished fourth in the 300 hurdles (45.47). He set a personal record.

Kyle Fry finished fifth in the shot put (42-3).

Jonathan Esparza finished sixth in the 110 hurdles (18.88).

Noey Valencia finished seventh in the 800 (2:19).

Brett Sayad finished 10th in the triple jump (35-101/2).

Elite Meet

Dupree, Cunha, Tate, Luangchai, Jones and Brown will be competing at the 25th Annual Sacramento Meet of Champions at Hughes Stadium this Saturday.
