Ceres High School's varsity baseball team experienced a successful start to the 2012 season.

The Bulldogs shut out host Modesto High 10-0 in non-conference play on Saturday.

"It was as close to a perfect game as you can get," head coach John Bussard said. "We did a lot of good things. But we still have a long ways to go."

Ceres High ace pitcher Haydon Turpin yielded just one hit with one strikeout and one walk over four innings versus the Panthers. "He was very effective," Bussard said. "He threw strikes and utilized his defense."

Bulldog closer Brett Conway allowed no hits and struck out three in two innings.

"That's the role we've envisioned for him," Bussard said. "He did a really good job."

Eight different players contributed on offense for Ceres High, including Brandon Aravalos, Devon Ruger, Jonathan Medeiros, Nick Welsh, A.J. Fontana, Jimmy Bates, Brent Bussard and Jimbo Pernetti.

Aravalos batted 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, two RBIs and two runs.

Ruger batted 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs.

Medeiros batted 2-for-3 with two runs.

Welsh batted 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run.
