The Ceres Earthquakes under-12 girls competitive soccer team finished in first place during the CCSL Metro Section/Valley Region Fall Season, which got underway in September and ended on Nov. 14.

"We haven't had a lot of success in the past," coach Cyndi Meshach said. "The girls were committed this year."

The Earthquakes collected nine wins, one loss and one tie.

Ceres allowed just four goals in 11 games.

Selena Penuelas led the Earthquakes in scoring with 10 goals and one assist.

Camille Ochoa and Angelica Medrano both tallied three goals and one assist.

Dalia Bogart had two goals and three assists.

Iliana Lozano had two goals and two assists.

Sejal Malhi had two goals and one assist.

Madeline Mendonsa had two goals.

Alexis Ruiz and Ailyn Bucio each had one goal and one assist.

Julissa Diaz, Thalia Johnson, Kiara Hernandez and Harlye Holliday all had one goal.

Nadia Ruiz had two assists.

Ariana Ruiz and Iris Valdez chipped in with one assist apiece.

"These girls are young," Meshach said. "We had a rough preseason. We lost quite a few games. We had a lot of goals scored on us."

Ceres beat Oakdale Revolution twice, and Manteca Rangers, Orangevale Chaos, Elk Grove Orange Crush, Natomas Gunners, Natomas Sparks and Natomas Splash once.

The Earthquakes won one of two games against Granite Bay Galaxy.

Ceres and Patterson Fury tied during the second week of the season.

"Patterson was big, fast and strong," Meshach said. "We played well against them. It was a confidence builder."

The Earthquakes exceeded Meshach's expectations.

"I didn't foresee us taking first place," she said. "I love these girls."
