The Ceres Sizzle 14-and-under travel softball team took first place in the Silver Bracket at the NSA Fall West Pac Championships this past weekend at Pedretti Park in Turlock.

“I’m just really proud of them,” coach Misty Roton said. “They all stepped up this week. They deserved to win.”

The Sizzle compiled a 3-2 record.

Top-seeded Ceres won both of its games on Sunday.

The Sizzle rallied for an 8-6 victory over third-seeded Drop Zone in the finals.

“They earned it,” Roton said.

Ceres trailed 4-1 at the end of the third inning.

The Sizzle scored one run in the fourth and six times in the sixth to secure the win.

“They kept fighting and pushed through until the very end,” Roton said. “It just shows they don’t give up.”

Ceres shut out Bases Academy 8-0 in the semifinals.

The Sizzle topped Turlock Fury 13-2 and lost 8-5 to Valley Venom and 7-5 to Oakdale Magic on Saturday in seeding play.

Ceres placed first twice and third once while competing in five tournaments this fall.

“I saw a lot of improvement in our hitting,” Roton said. “Our pitchers stepped up, too. They worked hard all year.”

The Sizzle’s 13-player roster consisted of Emily Bare, Samantha Espinoza, Emery Franco, Larynne Holland, Gracie Kimbrough, Caitlyn Medeiros, Lacie Nycum, Isabella Pelayo, Kinzy Perkins, Julia Roton, Bethanie Thornberry and Desiree Torres.

“This group of girls has the best chemistry of any team I’ve coached the last four years. They all get along so well on and off the field. They’re friends.”
