• POLICE ARREST INTRUDER: CERES - A 40-year-old Modesto man was arrested by Ceres police after he allegedly broke into a private residence Saturday morning, April 10 while under the influence of drugs.

Residents of the home in the 3300 block of Castiglione Way called 911 at 3:39 a.m. to report that a man came into their house and announced that the house was his and wanted everyone out.

"They forced him out," said Lt. Brent Smith. "He's lucky they didn't shoot him."

The suspect, John Anthony Torres, then sat inside a black Chevy Camaro but left before officers arrived. Officer Ron Collins located Torres at Hackett and Peoples and arrested him. Collins said Torres was under the influence of drugs and possibly in possession of heroin. He also had a hypodermic syringe in the car.

The victims didn't wish to press trespassing charges but Torres was charged with being under the influence of drugs, possession of illegal drugs, possession of stolen U.S. mail, and violating the terms of his probation.

• CERES MAN SHOT: CERES - Police believe that bullets fired at a 24-year-old Ceres man on Sunday were in response to gang tensions rising in the area.

Daniel Olivarez, 24, of Ceres, was struck in the left shoulder by a round as he was driving his mother's car to the store and thought a rock struck a car window in the area of Hackett and Blaker.

Police were called at 12:22 p.m. to the victim's residence on Park Royal Drive. Officers found three bullet holes at the rear right window. Lt. Brent Smith said the victim was not very cooperative with police. There was no evidence located and no information on the suspects.

• GRANDSON HOLDS KNIFE TO 93-YEAR-OLD: CERES - A 36-year-old man was tackled to the ground by officers after he allegedly held a knife to the face of his 93-year-old grandmother at Ceres Christian Terrace on Friday evening.

Joshua Turner entered the adult care facility at 1859 Richard Way, Ceres, to see his grandmother but became enraged and threatened her. Witnesses said Turner was under the influence in the hallway in front of his grandmother's unit where he held a knife to himself and then her. Police were called at 7:42 p.m. When he spotted four officers approaching him he dropped the knife and ran down the hallway where he was unable to open a fire escape door. After a brief struggle Turner was taken to the ground.

"He was seriously under the influence of drugs," said Ceres Police Lt. Brent Smith.

Turner was charged with elder abuse, false imprisonment, being under the influence of a controlled substance, and delaying or resisting an officer.

• DUI ARREST: CERES - Police arrested and charged Juan Castro, 21, of Hughson, with drunk driving after he was stopped early Sunday driving eastbound on Hatch Road in Ceres.

At 2:40 a.m. Officer Josh Klinge followed Castro's red 1999 Dodge Avenger for traffic violations and made a traffic stop in the 1770 block of Hatch Road. After Castro failed a field sobriety test and was booked on charges of DUI.
