Arrest made in DUI crash
Ceres Cop Car

A 31-year-old Ceres man was arrested Sunday evening after crashing into a parked pickup in front of 2216 Moffett Road and rolling his 1995 Volkswagen Jetta.

The crash took place at 9:09 p.m. and ended up in front of 2312 Moffett Road.

Officer Kevin Sakasegawa found Jesse Renteria, 31, of Ceres, standing next to a brick pillar near the crash and determined that he was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. Renteria had red, watery eyes, slurred speech, an unsteady gait, and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Renteria admitted having a few beers earlier.

A DUI investigation was conducted however Renteria could not perform a field sobriety test because of shoulder pain. Paramedics believed he broke his collar bone and rushed him to Doctors Medical Center where they treated the injury and took a blood draw.

Criminal charges of DUI and driving without insurance were forwarded to the District Attorney to be filed against Renteria.

The officer determined Renteria was northbound on Moffett Road when the vehicle drifted towards the east curb line and rear-ended a parked 2001 Dodge pickup in front of 2216 Moffett Road. The VW glanced off of the parked truck, flipping it onto its roof. Renteria's vehicle appeared to be a total loss and had to be towed.

Prior to the tow an inventory search of the suspect's vehicle turned up a near-empty bottle of New Amsterdam Gin.
