Auto theft suspected arrested in south Modesto

An auto theft suspect was apprehended Friday afternoon in south Modesto after he tried to run from Sheriff’s deputies.

A homicide detective with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department who was in the area of Hatch and Crows Landing roads spotted a stolen vehicle parked in the 1800 block of Dallas Street with someone in the driver’s seat. At approximately 1 p.m. the Sheriff’s Community Resource Unit contacted the driver, Michael Kukor, 40, who then fled on foot.

Kukor jumped the fence in the 1800 block of Las Vegas Street. With the help of the Sheriff’s Department fixed wing aircraft circling the suspect was located hiding under a van after deputies establishing a perimeter.

Kukor was charged with vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, delaying or obstructing an officer from performing his duties, violation of probation and a warrant for a prior vehicle theft.
