Bay Area man leads police on chase
Ceres Cop Car

A 32-year-old San Leandro man was booked on Saturday evening for evading a Ceres Police officer and driving without a driver's license.

Officer Mike Vierra conducted a 8:28 p.m. traffic stop on a blue 2005 Dodge Caravan for speeding as it took off from Summary Market on Herndon Road. The driver pulled over, dropped to his knees and placed his hands on his head. The passenger William Sanchez, 32, of San Leandro, jumped into the driver's seat and took off. Vierra pursued the van a short distance until it stopped on Joyce Avenue west of Herndon Road. Sanchez then took off running in the alley and was apprehended by Officer Vierra after a short foot pursuit.

A 9mm gun magazine and marijuana were found on the passenger side of the van but no gun was located.
