Beer theft leads to arrest

A 43-year-old Ceres parolee was arrested Wednesday morning, Oct. 28 after he stole a can of beer from a Hatch Road grocery store.

A Cost Less Foods’ loss prevention officer called police at 10:16 a.m. after Brian Ortega, 43, of Ceres, slipped a 40-ounce beer into his front waistband and left the store. Once outside, the suspect was stopped by loss prevention where he removed the can and threw into the parking lot. Ortega was detained. 

Ortega was found to be on parole. He had a parole hold warrant for his arrest and was taken into custody and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
