Budget Inn stabbing victim identified

Detectives have identified the victim of the Dec. 29 stabbing at the Budget Inn in south Modesto as they hunt for the killer.

Otis Thomas, 49, of Modesto, was found fatally wounded in a room at the motel, located at 581 South Ninth Street. Thomas was transported to a local emergency room where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The crime was reported on the 9-1-1 line at approximately 6:45 p.m.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department said it have not determined a motive and have few clues to operate on and said there is no information on the suspect. Anyone with information on the fatal stabbing is urged to call Detective David Hickman at 525-7042. Also, anonymous tips may be made by calling Crime Stoppers at 521-4636.
