Thomas Cooke, 36, of Ceres, was arrested Thursday evening for a warrant for possession of methamphetamine but is also a suspect in an auto burglary case.
Cooke admitted breaking into a locked car in the Walmart parking lot on the prior day but the investigation is ongoing, said Ceres Police Department spokesman Lt. James Yandell.
Cooke's arrest came after someone called 911 at 11:42 p.m. to report a man possibly brandishing a handgun. Officer Kiashira Ruiz arrived at the store and saw a suspect, Cooke, who matched the description given to dispatchers. Ruiz did not locate any weapon but Officer Art Hively arrived and recognized Cooke as one of two vehicle burglary suspects from the previous case. Cooke admitted to committing the burglary, said Lt. Yandell.
